Hi there. I’m Jessie Bryson (sometimes known in the cyber-world as Jessie Chien Bryson). I live in the North City in the Middle Kingdom–or more colloquially speaking, in Beijing, China. I spend a lot of my days eating and writing, or at least dreaming about what to eat and how to write more.
In the last decade I’ve lived in Los Angeles, New York City, Washington D.C., Guangzhou, China, and Dar es Salaam, Tanzania– and traveling through many more cities beyond those. While in China (the first time) I was an expat correspondent for eChinaCities, and an in-house editor for a factory consulting firm focusing on EHS, CSR, and workers’ rights. I was a regular contributor to Honest Cooking, Girl Meets Food, RecipeRelay, Righteous Cheese, and was on the freelance photography team for EaterDC.
After several years of freelancing my butt off I went back to the full-time grind in the role of a communications specialist at the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. Here in Beijing, I find myself in a similar position doing outreach and communications work.
But at the end of the day, I still love to write, edit, photograph, and create. I warmly welcome any opportunities to do so. Contact me if you’d like to collaborate!
Oh yeah, when I’m not communicating for a living, I do stuff like Instagram, yoga, and throw dinner parties (in order of frequency). I also have impromptu dance sessions at home with my husband.
